Felix Weisz (b. 1989, AT)

Felix Weisz studied painting and animation at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. Having previously worked as an animation filmmaker, he has exhibited his animation work in Austria and internationally.

Felix’s practice combines Byzantine and medieval pictorial traditions with an independent pop aesthetic, playfully blurring the boundaries between high and low culture. His paintings feature cartoon-like characters caught in awkward or absurd situations, accompanied by witty remarks and cultural references, often expressed in Latin. This juxtaposition of humor, classical imagery and contemporary popular culture creates multilayered narratives that invite both amusement and reflection.

Gold backgrounds and distinctive frames, often antique or designed by the artist himself, are integral to Felix’s works, transforming paintings into sculptural wall objects.
